While these so-called accreditation authorities exist, not all of them or legal. What they should do is to check if the accrediting body is registered under the US Board of Education. It is also important to check if the degree one's aiming for is suitable for long-term educational plans. For example, those who are inquiring on an associate program that will be later used in getting a bachelor's degree should confirm if the institution's program can be credited. One should also consider the availability of the professors and instructors, and most importantly, the administration of the online school. The main reason is that scheduling conflicts often occur, so it is advisable to have access to the professors to be able to catch up on missed classes. Doing so will avoid the hassle of catching up on piled work. Also, various colleges don't always give the same level of support. Some might be more than willing to help a student, while others can be quite negligent.
